GPS/Camera System Used To Dole Out Parking Tickets
CHQR AM 770, Calgary Canada
The City of Calgary is going high-tech to catch parking violators.
The Calgary Parking Authority has started using an automatic tire-chalking system. A 21-day trial includes cameras on an enforcement vehicle using laser and G.P.S. to take pictures of vehicles in time-limited parking zones.
Bylaw officers can then remain in their vehicles while snapping pictures of vehicles and licenses plates.
Violators will get a ticket in the mail.
City officials say this system lets them better monitor short-stay parking without increasing staff.
