From: Mobile Whack
If you are looking for a portable widescreen in car navigator, then the Chicago 8000 GPS unit from Route 66 is an ideal device for you. At 24mm, the device boasts of the tag as the slimmest widescreen in car navigator currently available in the market. But one really wonders how long it's gonna hold on to that tag as the 'slimmest GPS device', with the Garmin Nuvi 660 which measures 23mm is already waiting in the wings to hit the market.

Like other units from the Chicago lineup, which have already got a mention on our site, the 8000 also features State-of-the-art technology. It comes loaded with WinCE 5.0 OS and is powered by a 400 MHz CPU. The device has sufficient memory with 64 MB RAM / 64 MB ROM. You can also expand the memory if required with the SD/MMC slot. It gets a 4.3" wide screen LCD and features large button user interface for in-car use with the tip of your finger.
Other new additions to the GPS unit feature list include, the integrated MP3 player, FREE safety cameras (only in B+NL+L & CZ+PL & D+A+CH+FL & E+P & F & FIN+N+S & GB+IRL & GR & I), uninterrupted navigation in tunnels and urban areas, on-screen exit information like on signposts along the road and latest geographic data (NAVTEQ, Q2-2006). The interpolation of the GPS signal (I-GPS) enables for a smooth and clear display of the maps. It also comes with a new warning system that alerts you when you exceed a preset speed, there by avoiding the frustrating speed tickets!
The Chicago 9000 more or less has all the features of the 8000 model, but in addition it gets a the FM-TMC receiver. Other additional features include SiRF Star III GPS, speaker, battery life of 4.5 hours and USB 1.1. The Chicago 8000 GPS is currently available in Europe at a suggested price of € 399.95.
