Uniden Enters Portable GPS Market
From: ElectricHouse.com
Make way for another backseat driver on your dashboard. Uniden, who is usually found in the cordless phone aisle, is entering the GPS market.
The company is boasting that the MapTrax line focuses on nice touchscreens and ease of use -- two things that can be pretty important when you are trying to use it while, you know, you should be concentrating on the road.
Twice says that the MapTrax line will start shipping in November, but it looks like a few sites are taking pre-orders already. You may want to hold out, though. Pricing should be between $349 and $399, but the pieces I've seen on the Web were asking for $50 to $100 more. They look nice, but I'm not that excited!
Two additional models are expected in the spring, with Bluetooth and audible map features. Another three units will come later in 2007. -- Rachel Cericola
$349 to $399
TFT touchscreens ranging from 3.5 to 7 inches
WAAS-enabled units
400-MHz processors
5 additional products are expected in 2007
