TomTom Speeds Up GPS Positioning

A free service from TomTom called QuickGPSfix allows TomTom GO users to get an immediate connection between their device and a GPS satellite allowing their position to be "fixed" within seconds.
The service works by predicting satellite orbits for up to seven days and the sending these to TomTom devices while they are connected to a personal computer.
Even if the TomTom GO is switched off for more than a day, it can still obtain a fix within a few seconds, says the company.
The feature is currently unique to the new TomTom GO range and is installed by simply connecting the device to a computer running TomTom's software application, TomTom HOME. The QuickGPSfix information is then updated to the GPS device every time the user connects it to their computer.
The software is available as a free from the TomTom website and is used generally to manage TomTom PLUS content & services such as safety camera information, maps and voices.
TomTom HOME is also a conduit for free traffic alerts to help you plan routes before setting off on a journey. It can be used for all TomTom navigation devices as well as NAVIGATOR 6, but the QuickGPSfix is currently only compatible with the TomTom GO 910 and TomTom GO 710.
