EAST BRUNSWICK - Five vehicles were broken into Saturday evening in three parking lots along Route 18.

The break-ins occurred between 4:50 and 11 p.m., and in each case a GPS unit was stolen along with other items.

Three of the vehicles were parked in the lot of the Brunswick Hills Racquet Club, at 1020 Route 18.

There, suspects broke the driver's-side window of a 2004 Subaru owned by a Holmdel resident. Reported stolen was an iPod adapter, a Garmin GPS unit, a Palm Pilot, a Samsung cell phone, cash and credit cards, sunglasses and computer accessories. The total value of the stolen items from that vehicle was estimated at $1,700.

A 2005 Honda owned by a Howell resident was also broken into outside the racquet club. The passenger-side window of the vehicle was smashed and a GPS unit valued at $500 was stolen.

In the same lot, a 1998 Volkswagen had the front passenger window smashed. Taken from the vehicle was $50 cash and a $700 GPS unit.

Nearby, in the parking lot of Gusto's Restaurant, at 1050 Route 18, the front passenger window of a 2005 Nissan was broken out. The owner, an Old Bridge resident reported to police that a Magellan GPS unit, valued at $400, was stolen.

During the same time period, a 2000 Chevy Tahoe was broken into in the Chili's parking lot at 363 Route 18. The driver's-side front window was smashed and a Garmin GPS unit valued at $300 was stolen.
